MFFLP Service Eligibility Guidelines

To be eligible for services Minnesota state statute requires:

  1. be a Minnesota farmer who is farming, or has farmed within the last twenty-four months,
  2. have a debt-to-asset ratio greater than 50 percent,
  3. have a reportable federal adjusted gross income in the previous tax year which does not exceed eligibility limits, and
  4. be unable to retain legal counsel.

Because the amount of funding for MFFLP is limited, priority is given to cases where the farm family faces the loss of a family farm homestead, repossession of machinery, equipment, livestock, crops or other essential assets that are necessary to the farm operation. Priority is also given to cases where there is a need to secure the extension of credit or the release of farm production income for family living expenses and farm operating costs.

MFFLP uses these as general guidelines. We understand there may be other circumstances that affect individuals. Please contact one of the MFFLP offices to find out if you are eligible for services.
